This is a fully guided small group  hike to see the entry of lava into the ocean and possibly liquid flowing lava up close and personal.
This tour is not for the faint of heart and involves extensive hiking 4.5 miles in and 4.5 miles out. But it is definitely your best chance to see lava flowing and lava breakouts from Pu'u O'o vent on Kilaueau crater. The narrated tour also includes Saddle Road, Mauna Kea State Park, the 1984 lava flow from Mauna Loa, Hilo highlights and Rainbow Falls. Experience lava flows into Pahoa (2014), Kaimu Black Sand Beach, and Kalapana. Hikeapproximately 10 miles, mostly along coastal evacuation roads to see the lava flows, then up across very recent lava to look for potential breakouts of flowing lava with your experienced guide where a picnic style dinner on the lava is included.

Leave your Kona or Waikoloa resort or hotel in style in our new high-ceiling Mercedes Benz luxury van.  Your local guide will entertain you with information about the current, past and history of Hawaii as you climb initially to the height of 2000m or 6500 feet.  First we'll make a brief

Our next stop will be the historic town of Pahoa, where we can see where lava met the town in 2014 and threatened her existence. From Pahoa, we head straight for a quick hike to Kaimu, previously site of the most beautiful black sand beach in Hawaii before it was covered by Pele's eruption in 1990.  We'll spend some time enjoying the new black sand beach at Kaimu and then  straight to the Kalapana trailhead to begin our hike out to see the
active flow. The hike is approximately 2.5 miles each way along a gravel road that passes near
devastated town of Kalapana and the ocean. It's not an easy hike - the terrain is level for most of it but the payoff is often breathtaking!  Recently lava entering the ocean provides a show of steam and sometimes visible flowing lava. We will also take a hike up the pali and onto the lava fields for a picnic-style dinner, photos and possible lava “breakout” moments before beginning our hike back to the van for the ride home.

See, hear and photograph the Humpback Whales from our stable catamaran decks. Early morning ocean conditions are generally the calmest of the day! Includes Kona Coffee, soft drinks and crunchy granola bar snacks. Guaranteed – see a Humpback or ride again for free!

After arriving at beautiful Anaeho'omalu Bay, you'll gather with the other whale watchers to take a short shuttle boat ride out to the Whale Watching catamaran -- please note: depending on wind and tide conditions, you may have to walk through knee deep water to access the shuttle boat boarding ramp. The shuttle boat ride takes just a few minutes...and after your crew secures the two vessels, you'll walk up a three step staircase (our friendly crew will assist you as necessary), and you'll be aboard the stable and legendary catamaran. Help yourself to hot Kona coffee, refreshing tropical juices, or soft drinks and crunchy granola snacks as the rest of the group boards. These complimentary snacks and beverages are available throughout the cruise -- and our crew is happy to bring them to you too!

As you get underway, your USCG certified captain will introduce you to the boat and the crew, and provide a safety orientation. Often you'll see your first Humpback spout before we even leave the bay! As the captain maneuvers the vessel towards those first spouts and splashes, our on-board marine naturalist will provide interpretation and answer your questions about the Humpbacks' behaviors. Ocean Sports is proud to follow the federal guidelines protecting the Humpback Whales. Your group won't approach the whales closer than 100 yards, or maneuver our boats in ways that might alter the behavior of the whales. When weather conditions allow, your guide will deploy the underwater hydrophone so that you can hear the whales singing!

You will return to the Bay 2 hours after departing, and reverse our boarding process to deboard the catamaran via the shuttle boat.

This tour combines real coastal sailing on a legendary catamaran with the biggest party guests of all...the Humpback Whales! This tour also includes complimentary bar and crunchy snacks. Take the helm under the guidance of the expert captains, or relax on deck and let them do the work. Great fun, and great photo ops! All Whale Watches include interpretation of the whales' behaviors from trained naturalists. Please note that Humpback sightings on the Sail with the Whales trip are not guaranteed...but do know you'll have a great time!

Check in at the Beach Hut at Anaeho'omalu Bay. You'll then board the shuttle boat for the quick ride to the catamaran (please note that depending on wind and tide conditions, you may have to walk thru knee deep water to access the shuttle boat boarding ramp). Once at the catamaran, the crew will secure the vessels together and then help you board the catamaran via the three step shuttle boat staircase.

As soon as you board, the complimentary bar is open! They offer tropical cocktails, a short bar, local beers on tap (on the vessel Seasmoke), red and white wines, and of course, tropical juices and soft drinks. Complimentary crunchy snacks are also available.
As you depart from the mooring, the USCG licensed captain will introduce the boat and the crew and provide a safety briefing. After exiting the bay, the crew will pull the sails and the fun begins.

Watch for the spouts and splashes of the Humpback whales as you experience real coastal sailing. The crew will refresh your beverages, and the on board naturalist will provide interpretation of the humpbacks' behaviors and answer all your humpback questions. This local operator is proud to follow the federal guidelines protecting the whales. They will never approach a humpback closer than 100 yards, or maneuver the vessel in ways that would alter the behavior of the whales.

Approximately one hour and 45 minutes after departure, your crew will drop the sails and motor back into the bay, securing the boat on the mooring 2 hours after departing. The shuttle boat will return to the catamaran and you'll de-board the same way you boarded -- via the shuttle boat back to the beach.
