Tour historic prohibition era bunkers and see portions of tunnels established by famous mobster, bootlegger Dutch Schultz. See the historic site where Dutch Schultz was raided during the prohibition. Dutch Schultz was a major player during prohibition, his story was made into a movie, Billy Bathgate, and portrayed in Cotton Club and Boardwalk Empire. The fact that the entire bootlegging operation was underground was very unique. The first two times the FBI came to the site in 1932 they couldn't find the distilling operation. The third time, they discovered the operation via a tunnel entrance. Only two men were captured while the rest of the workers escaped through miles of tunnels. When the FBI shut it down, they found three stills, 15000 gallons of mash and 10,000 pounds of sugar. The site was brought back to life by a new 13,000 square foot barn, built over the entrance to one of the tunnels.

Enjoy a unique chance to step back in time and tour a prohibition era distillery site established by infamous mobster/gangster Dutch Schultz. Upon arrival, while waiting for your tour to start, you can peruse archival material from the prohibition, a copy of a telegram to Hoover, photos of the historic site and of Dutch Schultz. On this tour you will see inside the prohibition tunnel and photos from interior of tunnels. You'll tour a distillery and go through a prohibition-era bunker where bootlegging once took place. Learn more about Arthur Fleigenheimer also known as Dutch Schultz. You will see the spring where bootleggers drew water and original historic chicken and turkey coops and tunnels entrance that hid the entire bootlegging process from Feds.

Your tour ends in a New York craft beverage tasting room where you'll sample 3 NY spirits. You will also have the opportunity to buy and bring home some Hudson Valley products from the NY Farmer's Market. A tour guide accompanies you around the property pointing out areas and items of significance from this Prohibition era historic distillery.

Explore the beautiful Hudson Valley on your bicycle with easy access to and from New York City via Metro-North Railroad. This bike tour hits all of the highlights: beautiful scenery, waterfalls, swimming holes and plenty of local food and wine. Full vehicle support is offered: friendly staff will carry all of your stuff, pick you up if you get stuck or need help, and transport any wine you buy. Breakfasts and dinners are also included. You are able to drop-off your gear a few days before the tour so you don’t have to carry it with you while you ride. Then hop aboard Metro-North Railroad (discounted rail fare available) and enjoy an exciting 3-day ride!

Day 1 - 23.3 miles. Mostly flat rail-trail. Rolling hills in other spots.
Start at the Wassaic Metro-North station which is located at the beginning of the Harlem Valley Rail Trail. This is a beautiful car-free trail that takes you through fertile farms and historic towns. A quiet rural road is also used in one area since there is a gap in the trail. The route is entirely paved and there are various services along the route, as well as historical markers which explain the history of this fascinating region. Lunch is “on your own”, but there are plenty of places to stop, including the quaint Village of Millerton.

The trail ends at Taconic State Park in Copake Falls where camp is set up. Since you will likely have time before dinner, you have the opportunity to explore a lot of what this park has to offer. Highlights include a short hike to Bash Bish Falls, exploring the historic iron works or swimming in an abandoned ore pit. Once we are settled in, dinner is served in the park’s picnic pavilion, where will be doing a cook-out.

Day 2 - 46.7 miles. Rolling hills.
Day 2 starts with breakfast served at the campground. Then ride westward towards the Hudson River on back roads with very little traffic. This will be a longer and more challenging ride than Day 1, but you also have all day so you can take your time.

Lunch is again “on your own” but you will have plenty of opportunities for breaks. Highlights include the historic Village of Red Hook as well as a potential swim at Lake Taghkanic State Park. After vaulting across the Hudson River on the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge, you can explore historic Kingston before turning south for the last few miles, winding along the Roundout Creek on your way to Rosendale.

Rosendale is a town once known for its cement plant. Today it is better known as a local artists community featuring an interesting main street located in a steep valley. Live music is usually offered somewhere on any day.  Once again, dinner will be served at the campground.

Day 3 - Choice of route, ranging between 19 or 41 miles. Mostly flat rail-trail. Rolling hills in other spots.
Day 3 starts with breakfast. After we pack up, we ride up to the top of a massive train trestle…which is now the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail. After taking your pictures of the gorgeous valley beneath you, you’ll start riding south on this beautiful pathway.

The shorter distances of Day 3 allow for time to explore. Those looking to ride the shortest route will get to experience the fantastic “Walkway over the Hudson”, an abandoned railroad trestle which was converted into a walkway that takes you to Poughkeepsie and the train home. Those looking to do a longer ride will have the option to add on a distillery tour, vineyard and wine tastings. (Additional costs apply)

Take a bike ride to one of the most spectacular regions for both scenery and artisanal food and wine on this full-day tour in the Hudson Valley. Vault across the Hudson River on the Walkway Over the Hudson, then experience two beautiful rail trails on a mostly car-free ride to the town of Gardiner, where a bicycling excursion takes a turn to explore the local flavors of the Hudson Valley. Make three stops to taste it all, with lunch included. No car or driving required.

Take the Metro-North Hudson Line train to Poughkeepsie with bike in tow (bikes are allowed on the train) and meet the group to start the day's journey. The train leaves Grand Central at 8:48am and Harlem-125th Street at 8:59am, then arrives in Poughkeepsie at 10:47am. (If not arriving from NYC, drive to the Poughkeepsie train station and park for free before meeting the group at 10:47am). Guides will provide energy bars, snacks, and water before sending the group on their way.

It’s a 15.5 mile ride to the first stop at Gardiner Liquid Mercantile. Receive an overview of the region’s wine, spirit, and cider industry along with a sampling of a few local ciders.

From there, it’s an additional 1.8 miles to the second stop at Tuthilltown Spirits where lunch is served at their restaurant inside a historic grist mill. After lunch, take a tour of the distillery and have a tasting of their excellent whisky.

Then it’s 2.6 miles more to the third and final stop: Whitecliff Vineyard and Winery. Approach the winery using local roads with beautiful views of the Shawgunk Ridge.

A shuttle will be waiting to transport guests and bicycles to the Poughkeepsie train station for the ride back to New York City. Exact train times cannot be guaranteed. However, the trains leave hourly and take approximately two hours to reach Grand Central.

While going through the various stops on this tour, guides will transport any wines or spirits that have been purchased in a support vehicle so they don't have to be carried on the bike while riding. If too much wine has been purchased to carry on the train, they can be delivered after the tour to for a $20 fee. So go ahead and buy a case, if desired.

Train fare is not included, but a discounted rail fare can be bought for an additional $29.75.
